One Big Beautiful Sign...

Dear LTRC Members,

The Jerk

Depending on how “young” you are, you may remember the movie “The Jerk” with Steve Martin. There were two famous lines that are a vivid memory to me in present day, even though that movie was released--“gulp” forty-six years ago.

The first is “I am somebody, I am somebody!!” --his reaction to seeing his name printed in the phone book for the very first time. The second is when someone was shooting at him from a hill and he yells, “He hates these cans!” while hiding behind stacks of oil cans at the gas station. If you haven’t seen this movie, please do—it’s still genuinely amusing to this day.

The Analogies

It’s funny how our Board finally put up a couple of signs advertising our Club, and suddenly we are drawing a lot of attention (especially on social media – Nextdoor)! People recently told us they had no idea a conservative club like ours existed in the Lake Travis area—yet after placing just one sign, then another, it seems we’re now “in the phone book,” and in that sense, “we are somebody!” Bottom line, if folks didn’t know we existed before, they certainly do now!

What Happened?

So five kind acts of “attention” were bestowed upon our wonderful billboard signs. Our first sign was slashed seven times with a knife or razor. Amazingly, I was able to repair it with white duct tape the following day. Next, it was hit with graffiti—targeting President Trump, of course. Such good artwork! (Trump must go)

Finally, the sign was carved out completely (see the photo). That sign was replaced the following day, and in just two more days our second billboard sign was hit with the same graffiti message as the first, and two days after that, carved out again and destroyed (see more photos).

Just like the cans in the movie, it’s not the signs that these aggressors hate, it’s what’s behind the sign that they can’t stand. In this case, not a simple gas station attendant, but a movement that represents freedom and liberty with a definite push against the very tyranny and darkness that tries to silence the truth.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Let’s face it, the left has enjoyed some strong victories in recent years. They’ve definitely made a step forward in their move towards socialism with much hate and envy of anyone that displayed a sign of capital success (especially an evil conservative or OMG – A Trumper!).

But my oh my how things are changing with seemingly two steps back and those on the left are not happy about it. How can they show their anger, disgust, and frustration with everything they have worked for that is now in the process of being shredded with American Patriots on the move towards reestablishing true greatness once more in America? Hmm… there is that Republican sign in Lakeway. I’ll attack it and will feel better being vindicated for doing so!

Let's Get 'Em!

We don’t always have to agree, but we shouldn’t “hate”. That choice has consequences that go beyond daily life and is what those on the left do which defines them, not us. Anyway, some of our members have recently reached out to me with their own anger that someone would do something like this, and “we must go to war” over the destruction of a $100+ sign! I usually laugh because, well, we are in an internal war within our culture and have been for some time now. Our “war” certainly won’t be triggered by the destruction of a lone billboard sign, or even two, or more! Here’s the truth: When we lose something of tangible value like our Big Beautiful Signs, it only affirms that we are actually winning the internal culture war. I am actually quite pleased that two of our signs have been targeted and destroyed. It has drawn attention and made people curious, and—believe it or not— we might gain new members because of the graffiti incidents. Without it, many would have driven by without a second thought.

Fun Facts:

#1: It costs $600 to put a small ad in Community Impact to generate interest in our club. Conversely, it costs $109 per billboard sign to generate a huge amount of discussion and interest through social media, with the resulting defacing and destruction of our property. Weirdly, this is the better of the two deals in advertising return on investment. #2: In Texas, vandalism is categorized under criminal mischief as a Class B misdemeanor (destruction between $100-$750). The penalty is up to 180 days in jail and a fine not to exceed $2000, plus the replacement cost of the property. Additionally, since we have obtained permission for this sign to be placed on private property, criminal trespass charges could also be filed by the property owner.

An Awakening

REMEMBER CHARLIE KIRK! He was struck down and killed—not because of the man he was, but because of the movement and the Christian goodness he represented. The serious mistake that the left makes is that attacking a sign or attacking a single man (now martyr), or attacking an innocent girl on a bus, etc… they only pull on a lion’s tail and wake up those that may not have cared or noticed before… well, their awareness level is certainly high now. The lion has awakened.

What Can We Do?

As a sheepdog, I welcome the righteous fight when needed. But like all of you, I prefer peace. We simply want to live in a country grounded in respect and peace without angst and hatred. We all have the right to free speech and expression. But assassination or even destruction of property like a simple advertising sign is not the country we grew up in, and not the one we want to leave to our children. In short, we didn’t start this culture war, but collectively we will surely end it!...

Peacefully and with unwavering resolve!

Go in grace and love one another. Remember that when “they” attempt to knock us down, they only make us stronger. When confronted by someone who opposes our Christian foundational values, stand firm in conviction—but “kill ‘em with kindness!”  Never stoup to their level

And the most important thing to remember . . .
