All Good Intentions: Engaging Our Community for a Stronger Texas

Spring Has Arrived

Well, spring has finally arrived, and winter is behind us. This season brings exciting happenings for our club. We continue to add new members each month, and we are planning more events and outreach opportunities for the future.

Did you know that our Club’s membership extends to a 30-mile radius from the geographical center of Lake Travis? While this is true, our primary operational boundary for Republican political activity is defined as the area known as the Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD).

Inclusion Across Our Community

So, why am I mentioning this?

At our last meeting, it was brought to my attention that, likely because I live in Lakeway, I often focus on Lakeway-specific events and happenings. However, we have many members who travel and attend our events from surrounding areas within LTISD. They deserve to be included without so much focus on just the City of Lakeway.

My apologies for that oversight.

Upcoming Debate Forum

That being said, I’m excited to announce that we are in the planning stages of hosting a debate forum for candidates in the upcoming May local elections. This forum will cover both the LTISD School Board and the Bee Cave mayoral race. Please pencil in Monday, April 13th at 6:30 PM at Saltgrass Steakhouse in the Galleria for this LTRC-sponsored event.

Food and beverages will be available for individual purchase as we hear from candidates from Lakeway, Bee Cave, and our local school board. Candidates will share their thoughts and respond to questions posed by an independent moderator from outside our district.

Speaking of Elections...

This week, I had the honor of serving as an election judge at the Lakeway Activity Center. It was a long day, but a very rewarding one. My direct observation was that Democrats were showing up in large numbers, while Republicans did just the opposite. This might be expected in the City of Austin, but not so much in the area served by this polling location.

While this may not be as concerning in a primary election, it should still get our attention. If we don’t do better in the November general election, we could face a rude awakening. The pendulum can swing quickly, and we cannot assume our community's direction will take care of itself. We have our work cut out for us in the months ahead to get people out of their homes and to the polls. Many I’ve spoken with since early voting and Tuesday’s election day had good intentions but also multiple excuses.

Well, good intentions alone won’t cut it. We need to be more engaged, more aware, and more committed to ensuring the final results are ones we can live with for the future of our families and our children.

Upcoming Precinct Convention

Please attend our upcoming Precinct Convention this weekend (March 7th). You can find your precinct number here: Voter Lookup. Then use that number to locate your meeting time and location here: Travis County GOP Conventions.

The Importance of Local Engagement

Before closing, I want to remind everyone of something important.

What we are building together in the Lake Travis community matters far beyond our meetings and events. Strong local communities are the foundation of a strong Texas, and a strong Texas is essential to a strong America. The work each of us does at the local level truly matters.

If you believe in protecting our community, strengthening our great state, and preserving the future of our nation, your continued involvement matters more now than ever.

A Helpful Video

If you want to better understand some of the background behind recent events involving Iran, take a few minutes to watch this short video. It offers helpful cultural and historical context for what is currently happening in the Middle East. Watch Here.

Thank you for being part of the Lake Travis Republican Club. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.

And as always, if you know a friend, neighbor, or family member who cares about the future of our community, Texas, and our nation, we would be honored to welcome them to join us at an upcoming meeting.
